We aim to achieve better health in the population through strengthening the public health science base, training the next generation of public health leaders to protect and promote the health and well being of the community through primary health care approach. Students of this subject will have to apply the knowledge they have gained in several areas of medicine for the benefit of the community. They are encouraged to involve in the community during their Internship.

Facility
Museum
The department has a well equipped museum. Various charts, specimens, food grains of nutritive importance, models and equipment are kept in the museum.
Library
There is a Department library with titles by reputed authors.
Activities
Academic activities
The teaching program of community medicine is spread over a period of two years – Third year and Final year. Seminars and tutorials are conducted regularly. As part of curriculum students have to conduct educational visits to Milk pasteurization unit, water purification center, sewage treatment plant, Industrial visit etc.
Medical camps and other outreach activities
As an outreach center Pallichalvillage is adopted. Monthly medical camp is conducted in SathyanNagar – Pappanamcode industrial estate area. Medical camps are conducted in association with various organizations. Health surveys are done by both students and interns. Health awareness classes are conducted in Anganwadi and schools
